This is the best plugged-in performance we’ve encountered on a sub-$/£500 electro-acoustic, and the whole package is frankly startling for the price. The plugged-in sound really does this guitar justice - its NanoMag has the more bite at extremes but blended it’s a great mix of warmth and attack. well, it gets even more interesting and it’s a user-friendly layout to tweak. Add in a tuner, the ability to blend the two pickups as you wish on the fly with the onboard controls with separate EQ for each. There’s a mono output for both these sources or the option of using two outputs to separate them in stereo. German company Shadow supplies the eSonic-2 preamp with two pickups here a traditional undersaddle piezo in the form of the NanoFlex and the NanoMag, located at the end of the fingerboard. Most affordable electro-acoustics we’ve looked at in recent years favour low-key, streamlined systems, which can feel a little tacked-on. The slim 1960s D-shape profile feels like a good middle ground for most styles, but we think it’s rhythm work where this guitar’s voice truly shines.Īll this is good, but what pushes the J-200 SCE into greatness for the price is the electro side. This has been set up here at the Banjo Warehouse and is a fantastic playing and sounding guitar. It’s a strummer’s delight with the highs offering articulation and the low-mids and bass creating a warm foundation that sounds full and orchestrated. Upon its introduction in the late 1930s, the J-200 (also referred to as the SJ-200) immediately filled a need for a deeper, more balanced and powerful sound. The original case is also very worn but it is in overall good shape and sturdy. Todaynearly 71 years laterthe legacy of Gibson’sKing of the Flat-tops lives on in the Gibson J-200 Standard acoustic-electric guitar. The fretboard itself is clean with clean frets. I’m not sure if the top has some repaired cracks or deep scratches but there are some lines on the top which could be either. There is a lot of checking and finish scratching. This is a fantastic example of a well played vintage Gibson that also includes the original case. This is very worn which does nothing but bring more sound and tone out of the guitar. The bridge is a large rosewood bridge with pearl blocks. The guitar has white binding on each side of the neck and body. The fretboard has nice pearl inlay position markers. The neck is also maple with a rosewood fretboard. The sides and back are maple and this has a spruce top. This is all original with the original sunburst finish. This has been fully inspected and set up here at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta.ĪLL OF OUR SALES INCLUDE A 7 DAY FULL SATISFACTION GUARANTEE
